Making his Verbier Festival debut this year, Argentinian‑born Leonardo García-Alarcón is a renowned conductor and harpsichordist who has performed at leading venues such as the Opéra de Paris, Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, Grand Théâtre de Genève, Staatsoper Berlin, Aix-en-Provence Festival and Salzburg Festival.
Founder and chief conductor both on the operatic stage and as a recitalist, performing in the most prestigious houses—including the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Wiener Staatsoper, Paris National Opera, Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, La Monnaie in Brussels, as well as at the Festivals of Aix-en-Provence, Salzburg and Glyndebourne—and under conductors such as William Christie, Myung-Whun Chung, Charles Dutoit, Daniel Harding and Christophe Rousset. Recipient of several international awards for her many recordings, she was Gramophone’s 2023 Artist of the Year, and in 2024 received the Ehrenpreis des Schallplattenkritik. She has been named Chevalier in France’s Légion d’Honneur as well as Commandeur des Arts et des Lettres.
