Yubeen Kim

Biography
Recognized worldwide for his musical prowess, achieved First Prize at the ARD International Music Competition, as well as First Prize at the Prague Spring International Music Competition, and Second Prize (with no First Prize awarded) at the Concours de Genève. He has also been honored with special awards, including the Audience Prize, Young Audience Prize, and Special Prize. Subsequently, these achievements have opened doors for him to perform concerts across the world.
 
As a soloist, he has been invited to perform at numerous concerts and festivals, including the Prague Spring Festival, Nimus Festival, Bemus Festival, Festival du Jura, Weiwuying International Music Festival, and Tongyeong International Music Festival. He has appeared as a soloist with many prestigious orchestras such as the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Konzerthausorchester Berlin, Bochumer Symphoniker, Turku Philharmonic Orchestra, and Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra. Additionally, he performs regularly in Korea with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, KBS Symphony Orchestra, Korean Chamber Orchestra, Korean National Symphony Orchestra, Bucheon Philharmonic Orchestra, Daejeon Philharmonic Orchestra, Chungnam Philharmonic Orchestra, Cheongju Philharmonic Orchestra, and Ensemble of Tokyo.
 
He studied at the CNSM de Lyon (Conservatoire National Supérieur Musique et Danse de Lyon) and at the CNSM de Paris (Conservatoire National Supérieur Musique de Paris). Moreover, he graduated from the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin with a Konzertexamen degree.
 
He has been the Principal Flute of the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra since January 2024, and served as the Principal Flute at the Konzerthausorchester Berlin from 2016 to 2023. He has collaborated with the renown conductors such as Esa-Pekka Salonen, Christoph Eschenbach, Iván Fischer, Jaap Van Zweden, Louis Langrée, David Zinman, Eliahu Inbal, Juraj Valčuha, Dmitrij Kitajenko, Philippe Herreweghe, Reinhard Goebel, Andrea Marcon and Myung-whun Chung.
 
Since September 2024, he has been serving as a Professor of Flute at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where he is passionate about teaching and mentoring the next generation of musicians. He is dedicated to sharing his vision, knowledge, and experience to help students grow both artistically and as individuals.
 
He has regularly performed with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra as a guest Principal Flute. Additionally, he has played live concerts at the Philharmonie Berlin and recorded the album ‘The Berlin Concert’ with John Williams for Deutsche Grammophon.
