VFCO / MIKHAÏL PLETNEV

Czerny, Schubert, Schumann

An original and unconventional program is offered here by the magician Mikhail Pletnev, bringing together the finest of 19th-century Romantic Europe. Rarely heard works precede Schumann’s Violin Concerto, probably one of the most demanding in the repertoire, sublimely performed by the exceptional Daniel Lozakovich.

The Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Mikhail Pletnev, presents an original program combining virtuosity and musical discovery. The evening opens with Carl Czerny’s Symphony No. 6 in G minor, a composer often associated with piano pedagogy, whose orchestral works reveal a keen sense of drama and orchestral color. Pianist Dmitry Shishkin, renowned for his remarkable talent, then brings Franz Schubert’s Wanderer Fantasy, arranged by Pletnev for piano and orchestra, to life, creating a captivating dialogue between soloist and orchestra that is both lyrical and passionate.

After the intermission, violinist Daniel Lozakovich performs Robert Schumann’s Violin Concerto in D minor, also arranged by Pletnev. This expressive and deeply romantic work allows Lozakovich to display his full virtuosity and sensitivity, while the orchestra supports every nuance with refinement and energy. A concert where classicism, romanticism, and contemporary reinterpretation come together to offer the audience a rich and unforgettable musical experience.
